Possible? Yes. Why do you want a RWD?

Re: AWD to RWD Conversion...

I don't see why anyone would want to convert AWD to RWD. AWD>RWD

^^ Not to a lot of people. This has been discussed a trillion times in the racing>non-specific section.

Smile Re: AWD to RWD Conversion...

drifting it maybe! i've had it since 1995 done only 50k miles and been in storage for the past 3 years! a mint car but Mitsi GTOs are not very sought after in New Zealand so i thought instead of buying a rear wheel drive car i just convert this one and drift it it was an Automatic when i bought it and then i conveted it to manual 5spd!
cheers

Yup we in the land of North America were screwed over and werent offered a AWD NA. All 3000gt's/GTO's outside of the US/Canada are AWD and some were autos.

And as for wanting to drift this may be an opinion but drifting is not only a waste of tires, but a waste of life. Its not even a sport. Sure I want a high horsepower RWD that could kick the ass end out at any time I romp the throttle, but to go out and try to "impress" judges with putting a car on the edge of losing control is stupid. Drifting is a fad and it will die off in a very short time. There is my

Re: AWD to RWD Conversion...

the conversion done on likes of WRX and Skylines before as they are RWD base cars. i suspect all 4WD 3000GT's are FWD base so it might be an impossible job sadly im not sure so thats what im tryin to find out here!

Re: AWD to RWD Conversion...

Bret Brinkman on 3si modified the planetary gears to where the tranny only sent power thru the t case to the rear wheels. Its not really a good way to go about it though because the t case is a weak link in the drivetrain. It also seems to absorb some of the extra power you should gain from going to powering only 2 wheels instead of 4. There are a few vids of his car floating around. He was at a Nopi event and entered the burn out contest.

And BTW yes the GTO/3000gt/Stealths are ALL FWD based.

Re: AWD to RWD Conversion...

hi mate
i must agree with ya driftin not bein a sport! its more as a show event than anything else eventhough it requires some skills. not sure about bein just a fad. the biggest advantage of drifting is being a very affordable way to enter motorsport world! lots of drift cars are almost normal street legal cars. its relatively cheap to buy, setup a drift car and compete therefore i do believe drifting is here to stay and it only gets bigger and more glamourous as time goes by.
thanks

Re: AWD to RWD Conversion...

The problem is you have young dumb kids who think they are gods and go out and hurt themselves or some innocent person. There arent many D1 events even held in the states so there is no "safe" places to be drifting. The only reason it even became popular in teh states is because its the latest "yo JDM tyte" thing and ricers will follow anything.

Re: AWD to RWD Conversion...

Back on topic, RWD makes a 3s lose a significant ammount of time in the 1/4.
