Box building help needed. THank you.

Ok, so I will buy 2 woofers: Alpine Type-S SWS-1242Ds, now I need the box.

I am reading specs from official Alpine website:
http://www.alpine-usa.com/en/product...&lang=en&tab=F

1)And trying to use program: WinISD beta to design a box. But I do not see "Z", specifications have two (2) of "Le", I also dont see "SPL" and "Pe". So its not working out, maybe this is a bad application for this after all?

2)But I need help with the website-based enclosure designer also, since I dont know wether I need sealed/sealed bandpass, ported, sealed bypass, opt size or optimized response box I need.

3)ALso, what is the difference between Rectangular and wedge enclosures. Does the wedge one have one side slanted?

4)I guess "Volume pad" is the carpeting?

5)WHere do I get "Fb (tuning frequency) (Hz)" for port designer?
How many ports will box require? (Given info above)

And finally,

6)Where do I buy ports, connectors and carpeting to use specifically for these home made enclosures? Wood and perhaps carpet is in Home Depot, but the rest I dont kknwo.

I appreciate the help alot

Re: Box building help needed. THank you.

I dont think so.

What im asking is specifics about the program, or a link to a description how to use the web page. The technical building stuff is easy for me and wont be a problem. I need the dimentions.

Ports can be many things. Most people use just a square port. That's why you see someone saying I have 20 square inches of port. That means that the port has a total of 20 sq inches. The carpeting can be bought at walmart in the automotive section. Mine offers some atleast. Or you can look online to order some carpet. RadioShack will have the connections.

Re: Box building help needed. THank you.

Theres a couple of guys on here that design custom boxes for a small fee. I havent seen to many free programs that offer what some other programs have to offer. You can get the terminal boxes off ebay, crutchfield, carpet any auto store lowes has marine carpet in a lot of colors. Volume pad i think there talking about poly-fil, you can get it from walmart its pretty much pillow or animal stuffing its like 2 bucks for a 20oz bag. This slows down the frequency waves from the sub in the enclosure to make the sub feel like its in a bigger box. Look at alpines website they will show you what boxes are ideal for the sub, slot ports are great but they need to be tuned to pretty good level. Sealed is the easiest to make just 6 sides and its a box.

Im sure once paul, mg or fryman get to this thread they will have better info for you.

Don't ever look at cars as just imports or domestics. Just because a car is made in a certain country doesn't mean that it is anything like another car from that country. An example of this is Mitsubishi reliability, just because they are Japanese doesn't mean that they are as reliable as a Honda or Toyota.

Re: Box building help needed. THank you.

THank you for the informative replies.

Now.... I am willing to pay one with good dual subwoofer enclosure design skill and experience to prove the data needed to build the box. I dont really want to go into bypass with the plexglass and everything, so I would need a standard dual 12" box, made the way it is supposed to be.

If anyone come through with such skills, hit me up.

Appreciate it.

Re: Box building help needed. THank you.

A couple of things the guys on here that build boxes will need to know is 1 what type of music do you listen to, 2 do you want sound quality or the pounding bass, and 3 what vehicle is this box going to be going in and exactly how much space do you have where it will be placed (exact measurements are very helpful). Provide us with that information and I'm sure one of us will be able to either design something for you and send you a cut sheet or build one for you and you buy it.

Re: Box building help needed. THank you.

My hondas in the works engine is sitting in my room on a stand. My daily driver right now is a 89 s blazer with some slight engine work. It was $80 to fill the damn thing up yesterday. I seen that on the back of a civic hatch at nopi last weekend, car ran a 12.2 all motor.

BUt back on topic give some dimensions for your trunk so everyone can get an idea of what kind of room you have.

Re: Box building help needed. THank you.

Squared off boxes better equalize the pressures on the cone, preventing the voice coil from rubbing the magnetic material under high power loads. Slots ports are also better than tube ports for the same reason, and also have less port noise, especially when rounded and/or flared.

I quit chargin' for designs, seein' as I don't need the money. I do build and ship though.

...

Otherwise, just 6 pieces of MDF 17"x17" and screw them all together in a cube, cut a round hole for your speaker, and you have a sealed box.

Need specifics, dude.

I'm not much into the SPL arena, I just build a sealed box of the right size and let it be.
