Re: Normal Oil Pressure

My 98 is about 40 - 50 at start up cold.

25 - 30 warmed up at idle.

55 - 60 under acceleration.

About 40 cruising.

Re: Normal Oil Pressure

around 25psi at warm idle
around 50psi under acceleration (warm engine)
(engine warm) in overdrive at 55mph = around 40-45psi

Re: Normal Oil Pressure

Excellent, thanks guys.

Rental_Blazer has an idle oil pressure of around 8psi or so but I guess it is within minimum spec for the engine.

About 40 years ago a old GM factory rep told me one time that 3/4 of a gauge is normal oil pressure running and around a 1/4 of a gauge at idle.
That seems to have held true threw the years.
The main problem is the electric oil pressure gauges are not always accurate.
It needs to be checked with a manual gauge to get the true pressure..
Also oil filter and oil wt. and condition and oil tempt. will affect the oil pressure.
I do not want to start a fram oil filter debate but I have saw a lot of low oil pressure problems when people use fram oil filters on a GM engine.
Another good reason to use a good brand/oem type oil filter and keep the oil changed regular.

Re: Normal Oil Pressure

I use K&N oil filters on everything. they're about $13, but worth it..

You are right though.

GM has a TSB about it.

Nah, they are not worth that price, but they are a good filter though.

Many filters are just as good for half the price.

Oh my not another oil filter debate which we should start a new post on.
But at 13$ you can by 4 AC-delco oem oil filters and have change left over.
Here is some info and specs on the ac delco and other oil filters but none on the K&N oil filters.
http://people.msoe.edu/~yoderw/oilfi...lterstudy.html
Can you give us some specs on or post a link on the K&N oil filter compared to others or tell us why it is worth the 13$

Re: Normal Oil Pressure

The site that I use is down right now...it has all the info.

Regardless, the guy seems to have found the problem.

The engine has 4200miles on it and he dropped the oil today and it was like metallic paint.

The oil filter was so plugged it was in bypass.

Changed the filter and oil and the pressure is up to 40psi again.

Sounds like he found the problem. I hope the metallic is not a lot of ground up metal or bearings.
Must have been one of them extra long distant oil change intervals.
Good luck with it.

Re: Normal Oil Pressure

From what I found out, the truck has been stalling as well.

CPI injector failure by the looks of it and it is what probably killed his old engine and his cat is bad as well.
