What's So Special About Battery?

I have a 2002 Sonata with 6 cyl engine. I had to replace the battery which looks very normal. Wal-Mart doesn't stock it and only 1 Autozone in my area had one. Can anyone tell me what is so special about this battery?

Re: What's So Special About Battery?

I have a 2001 Sonata and had the same problem. The thing is that within the past few years the Stock Battery Model # apparently has been changed to be a battery with about 250 less cranking amps. We found the exact same size, model # and all but it has 250 less cold cranking amps, at Autozone only. It doesn't seem to have the same amount of oomph" when starting up but car is running just fine. Maybe they found that it didnt need to have as much juice.

Re: What's So Special About Battery?

Your dealer will also carry batteries for your car. They are made by Interstate, and are made for Hyundai's, so they fit just fine, and have the necessary power for your car. For the V6 Sonata, part # is 00275-16000. List price is $85.70. The warranty isn't quite as good as you would get on an aftermarket, but it's still decent.

Re: What's So Special About Battery?

original type of aftermarket size battery from looking @ autozone's website = 24F --700 COLD CRANKING AMPS (875 CRANKING AMPS)

you can goto walmart/pepboys & get a size 34 battery w/ a plastic spacer to make it taller, just like the OEM size. walmart's yellow battery has a better warranty & CCA/CA specs...for the price

only other thing to check is top post battery terminals +/- can reach your battery cables!

the aftermarket also stocks a size # 34/78 (34=top post/ 78=side post for GM cars) which has substantial amount of CCA over OEM specs... the top posts are centered so the battery can be switched to face to the closest proper battery +/- terminals.
