New-Old rider

Hello guys/girls,


I am new to this forum and would like to introduce myself.

Name is Dino, originaly from Bosnia and Herzegovina in Europe, now living in NC, USA.

Just to say few words about riding.

Have ride before all kind of sport speedy bikes, but havent ride in over 14 years now.
So, I decided to go to Motorcycle Safety Riding Course, and that's going to be tonight in GTCC campus here localy to Jamestown, NC.

Wanted to get me a bike for a long time now, but the wife and kid,.... so, you know the story.

Will go tonight to see what's going on with this courses and in next two days will ride some of their bikes.
After that will probably buy me one of used cruisers, not more than 800 cc's, was thinking something like kawasaki vulcan or honda shadow, for first year or two, something really inexpensive, so if I drop it down, will not be big loss.
Or I will build me one of really nice cruisers with Rev Tech or Evo or S&S engine, but probably will wait until next year or so.

When I was riding before, did acctually fell down few times, but didn't get injured. Was lucky. So, I know what am talking about riding bikes.
That's reason why am I going to attend this courses tonight. Just to see if I have desire to ride a bike anymore and how will I handle a bike after so many years of not riding it.

When I was walking arround Greensboro, NC area, in search for a used bike, almost all of those sales people told me to get something new, like Boulevard C50 or C90, because I am big guy and can handle that (so they say) just to not give to much gas and you will be a OK.
Then I start laughing and thanking them to offer but thanks, no thanks. I will stick to something used for first year or so.
I don't think they are honest, to offer to someone who didn't ride for so many years something like that, even when I told them I haven't ride in ages.

Cause I know how easy is to drop bike or to fell down from one.

I have read bunch of your posts to not jump over your head and I agree with that.
Dont buy something you can't handle. It's really easy to drop bike or to get down from one. Trust me on this one.

Welcome! It's great to hear that you are considering getting back into riding. Keep us updated on how things go.

As for the dealerships, it is their job to make money, not to keep you safe. Sad but true. Congrats on ignoring their propoganda!

my dad has just got back into riding after 40yrs out of the saddle. he used to race scramblers on dirt ovals. never ridden on the street until now at the age of 62. he's doin fine so you shouldn't have a problem after 14 yrs

Well, just came back from the course and range.

Needles to say that I passed the written & rider exam without big problems. Had few mistakes, but that's it.
It was really good feeling to be back in saddle again after so many years.
Had a litlle bit of problem to keep balance up, but went a OK, have not fail down or drop bike.

Man, I was feeling great.

Now, need to wait until Tuesday to get my new licensce with M endorsement on it and am already in searching for a good/used bike in my area.
Something less expensive, so even if I drop it, wont be big loss.

So, will see you soon on the road like new-born rider.

For reference, I highly recommend http://cycletraderonline.com/motorcycles.htm so that you can find bikes in your area that you can look over and see what kind of condition they are in. Good luck in your search!

I believe it's just http://cycletrader.com. The "online" part wasn't necessary.

No problems,

i like bikes, but am not crazy to get me something super fast and strong for first year or so, until I got in the shape again.

After that, will see, may be 1100 cc's or something, but for first year probably will get 600-800 cc's, cruiser.

I think that I can handle that really easy.

I like to ride bikes, not to kill myself.

And still looking for a bike in my area.
