Re: Can someone explain
ok... here goes
Steve Bailey survived possibly the most one-sided over at Knox Grammar. knox grammer is the place where the match took place (in austrailia) an over is a measurement used in the game that consists of six bowled balls. basically, steve bailey was out classed by the bowler. Plumb lbw first ball (but not given) lbw means that the ball hit his leg which was directly in front of the wicket (the bits of wood behind the batsman. this is usually taken as an "out" because it is taken that his leg prevented the ball from hitting the wicket. not given simply means that the umpire didn't acknowledge it to be lbw. he was bowled second ball ... only for it to be called a no-ball. like in baseball, you can have foul balls. He edged just short of slip two balls later. slip is a fielding position. i'm making a gues here but i'm going to assume that this means that two balls were heading for the slip position after he made contact with them. this is normally down to the type of spin the bowler puts on the ball and the line he chooses, thus forcing you swing/hit the ball in a particular way; again, pointing to thim being out classed by the bowler. He was finally bowled second ball of the next over ... and he still made a duck! he was eventually bowled out by the second ball of the next over. duck means he scored no runs. would you believe i'm not british?
