2002 1.8T What is draining my coolant?

2002 Jetta 1.8T losing coolant.

I can see where my coolant is going. The component
is mounted near the top the Fan mount at the front passenger side of the engine compartment. My Haynes Manual doesn't identify it. No parts for this car cooling system seem to be listed at Autozone or PartsAmerica.

Photo at http://www.toto.com/mickg/VW/Component.jpg.

Anyone tell me what it is and where I may get a replacement?

The part is called the Secondary Coolant(water) Pump. The only place I know you can get it is at a Volkswagen Dealership Parts Department.

Have you been topping off your coolant? What coolant have you been using?

Thanks,

Would that be: G3050-168606 Auxiliary Water Pump by Bosch? if so about $120.

I'm using Prestone 50/50 mix I took the manual with the VW spec in it to the store and was told it was a match. Yes I know VW tie everything up that you can only go to their dealers to get anything done so it's probably not correct. But when you're 30 miles from the nearest dealer with a low coolant warning light you haave to do something.

Yes, that sounds right.

Just make sure to drain all of the factory coolant out. Supposingly mixing the two coolants can cause a problem in the coolant system.

Many thanks for your help.

Of course it has to happen when I'm out of work. But I can't start the new job on the 1st unless I have a car to get me there!
