Question 2002 SEL Wagon Fuses

Trying to replace fuse for power windows and antenna. I have read the manual and it is not clear which fuses is responsible for this issue. Can anyone help me out here?

Thanks

Steve

Use a test light to find the blown fuse. Check them all, it will only take a minute.
Is there anything else not working that may be on the same circuit?

The power antenna is on the same fuse as the Rear Control Unit. It is fuse 27 (5 amp) in the battery junction box. If this fuse is bad, you probably won't have any audio either (static, on cassette, or on CD). Fuse 26 (10 amp) in the Central Junction Box is also for the power antenna module, and is the same circuit as for the interior lamps, trunk lamps, and a couple other circuits.

The power windows do not share a common fuse with the power antenna. What problem are you experiencing with the power windows and power antenna?

Re: 2002 SEL Wagon Fuses

Thanks for the suggestions. I replaced fuse 26 as it was blown and all worked until the next morning when I started the car again only to find 26 blown again. Being creative and maybe a little stupid I put in a 15 amp fuse instead of a 10. Does anyone forsee an issue with this?

The items linked to fuse 26 appear to be the power antenna, power widnows and interior dome light.

Rod, both are not working but when I replace fuse 26, both work again. Seems odd.

Re: 2002 SEL Wagon Fuses

Interesting, per the 2002 Ford service manual for a Ford Taurus, central junction box fuse 26 (10 amp) provides power to Interior lamps relay, battery saver relay, Luggage compartment lamp, exterior rear view mirror switch, pulse stretcher module, and power antenna module. No mention of power windows. However, on my quick look through the wiring diagrams, it was unclear to me where the power windows do get their power from. I expected there to be a circuit breaker for them, but didn't find that either.

As for using a 15-amp fuse, yes, I do forsee a problem with that. In the interest of saving money and weight, there is a chance that Ford did not derate the wire used with that circuit. The wire could POSSIBLY overheat and either start a fire or burn open. This is unlikely, but possible. If a 10-amp fuse if blowing, something is drawing too much current. Did the fuse only blow when the radio was on AND you used the windows? What happens if you turn the radio off (and therefore the power antenna) and use the windows? Does the fuse still blow?

Something on that circuit has to be drawing an abnormally large amount of current, and it is in your best interest to determine what the fault is and repair it.

** yes, my little manual did not suggest a power source for the power windows either, very frustrating for such a large ticket item in a car.

Yes, I am the one taking the risk here and are aware of it. I will need to run throught the options. My gut feel is that it could be a the sqeaky noise from the antenna (possibly sticking due to dirt) or somehting connected to the dome light and my son playing with it. More research to be done.

On our 03 fuse 26 operates the windows, mirrors and inside trunk light.
