RH Fender Search (Reloaded)

I don't know what to do and I need some opinions. The situation was that I needed a stock blue passenger side fender for my 87 Z28. I called several places today within the state, some outta state. I asked about color, model...finally in Phoenix NY I start talking to this card shark guy, '87 Z28? That's a Collector's Item, Parts Aren't Gonna Be Cheap. He went the distance for me looking around at other places, I told him I needed shipping but he's finding fenders for 200 dollars at 500 miles away and 150 dollars One thousand miles away!!! Fender's supposed to be 60, that didn't even include the shipping.

I NEED a fender so i can put the hood back on, or else I can't take it the garage because they leave it outside overnight. All the while I'm considering that the car does need a paint job, but since it looked alright so far I wanted a stock painted fender to match. A primed new fender will be around 60!! But it won't match. Then I remembered I'm losing my driver's door to 2 rust spots:

Which means when someone fixes that rust, they'll HAVE to paint the car. What should I do that will be the most cost effective and is this a big problem if I want to sell the car?

Haha, someone noticed. The point isn't that I can't find one, because I know I can't. My question is if I should get a stock fender and then the new owner still has to paint it, but they can wait or should I get a primed OEM fender? Also, what should I do about the rust if I'm selling it?

Re: RH Fender Search (Reloaded)

I know, I was just bust'n your chops. How bad off is the original fender? If I remember it just pancaked a little by the header panel?

$60 bucks for a primered fender, sure, check Certi-fit or Paddock. Those are the two I'll be getting mine from. From there, take the gas filler neck door off and bring that for color matching to paint the fneder. But, there's gotta be one in junk yard near you somewhere.

I wouldn't even fret the rust. Why the heck are you doing all this just ot sell it anyway?

Because I'm worried about how fast those spots are spreading and because If the car works and looks good, I'm not getting a bad price for it.

Re: RH Fender Search (Reloaded)

Well, a spot in the middle of a piece is not too easy to "spot fix". To do it right, I'd blast the whole panel and fill any pit marks, have it all painted.

Hoollld on, you're STILL going to sell the Camaro? Even if you fix it all up?

Damn, thats seriously going way too overboard. I thought you were keeping it, I honestly dont know why you didnt sell it before you started fixing stuff.. you're just throwing money away basicly.

Well wasnt it road worthy before? The thing is that you wont be getting none of your money back AT ALL for profit at least..

No it wasn't, Look in my signature. Those weren't mods I wanted to do. It needed all of that. It had no insurance and I don't even know when the last time it was driven. I found it sitting in a junkyard behind some cars and was just happy it started. But none of that matters, now It has plates and as soon as I finish up on my end, I'm getting some garage work and an inspection and it's good to go.

The only perfomance mod would have to be the used eibach pro springs, and that was just to level out the car.

Re: RH Fender Search (Reloaded)

I'm gonna get the primed fender. If anyone who buys the Camaro wants it to look really good, it'll need new paint anyway. If you want to stop me, now's the time to do it, but I think this is the right decision.

Do you think I shouldn't do anything about the door?

Re: RH Fender Search (Reloaded)

Well, if it's a bad as you say it is, can't really tell much by the picture aside from yes there will be some pitting to the metal, the only true way to get it under control is media blast it.

Re: RH Fender Search (Reloaded)

Isn't 85 for shipping pushing it?

This is what i'm looking at. At second glance, some companies are charging 120 for shipping.

Re: RH Fender Search (Reloaded)

Alright, so you're asking why am I fixing everything If i can sell it as a non running project car, correct? Then my answer is that I want to drive it before I sell it. I'll have some time to.
