2500 hd update crank sensor fuel pump.
What I thought was the crank sensor going out turned out to be the fuel pump. I am not complaining since this truck just turned 100,000 thousand miles. 2001 6.0 still runs great.
Just to let anyone else know that when your truck needs to crank over several times times before firing first thing in the morning or after setting for awhile you are losing fuel pressure, and pump is going out. Do not be afraid to fix this on your own. I went to my sons best friend who works for a chevy dealership and we did this after hours. The only difficult part at all is getting the overflow hose back in the tank after the pump has been replaced. If you remover the drive shaft (a 2 minute job) this is much easier due to the angle of the hose going into the tank. Be sure to run the gas out down to around 1/8th tank to just make it easier. Other than that a twist of the retaining ring and out comes the pump and in goes the new. By the way if anyone needs the tank sensor for a 2001 6.0 silverado HD I have a spare since like an idiot I replaced it 2 months ago and didn't replace the fuel pump then...lesson learned! THE PUMP COMES WITH A NEW ONE. I hope this helps others out! GAT |

Re: 2500 hd update crank sensor fuel pump.
Fuel pressure check was the order of the day. The leak down test was proof positive and the fact that it starts right up now. I did not change the filter but thank you for the heads up as I will take care of that this week. The Fuel pump was 275.00 and 80.00 to install. You can do this yourself and save the labor.
