Odd starting problem

My wife has '99 plymoth SOHC with 110,000 miles. Sometimes when she goes to start, it acts like dead short , dashlights go out and starter has no responce. Then she shut door again kind of hard and everything is normal again. At first I thought the park sensor but she says the dash and clock go out too. Hope you got some ideas! Please help.

I had a similar problem and it was the battery (even though it was new)
