How to replace magnet for cam shaft sensor?
hey guys!! excellent forum!--I have '92 lesabre limited and the magnet for the cam shaft sensor (fuel injection) fell off. It seems this is a common problem but I don't see anyone discussing it. How do I replace this? Does it have to involve tearing down engine to replace cam shaft or can I somehow replace plastic housing with magnet? Smog diagnotics say that it will take 5-6 man hour alone to do this--there's got to be a better way?!?!?!? thanks, lou

Re: How to replace magnet for cam shaft sensor?
Some recent discussion on the subject & link on how to do it. If you have over 100K on the car, it would be better to replace the timing set & magnet at the same time.

Re: How to replace magnet for cam shaft sensor?
Both of my 92s have had the magnet disintegrate, so that is likely the case with yours. That said, I personally would not fool with that rigged up fix in the link by HotZ28. How would you know you got it right? Or that it would last? Anyhow, like HotZ28 said, it is a good idea to change your timing chain and gears and tensioner now anyhow. So to answer your question, is there a better way than tearing the front of your engine apart? No. You have to remove the front cover (get a Haynes manual). Then you have to remove the cam gear to put the new magnet in (but you would hopefully be putting it in your new gear).

Re: How to replace magnet for cam shaft sensor?
well--my mechanic and I decided to try the JP weld thing and let it set overnite--and it passed smog!!!!! yea!!!!!!--we decided that since there were only 83,000 miles on the car, it was worth it to try this method.
thanks, again! |
