Looking into a 3000GT VR-4
This summer i am looking at getting a 1994 3kgt vr4, providing i can find one for around 8 or 9 in fairly decent condition, anyone know what the chances of that are? and if you see one point me in the direction! Also i was woundering if anyone here, being that you all own these cars, could tell me some of the first things i would need to look at replacing and repairing/checking to make sure the motor dosent fuck up within the first couple of months, after that i am going to look into performance upgrades, like decals and stickers and a big wing and a really loud blow off valve, lol just kidding, i mean like exhaust intake and the what not, alright well let me know, thanks for helping out

Welcome to the forum. My first advice to you would be to read the FAQ.

Re: Looking into a 3000GT VR-4
Welcome! If you hadn't noticed, at the top of the forum page there are a few sticky's, one of them being "If you're looking into buying a VR4". I HIGHLY suggest that you read that before making any major financial decisions.

Re: Looking into a 3000GT VR-4
if you want a 94 VR4 for no more than 9 grand, the car will have at least 150K miles on it.

Re: Looking into a 3000GT VR-4
Yep, a 2nd gen with lower miles will cost you alot more than that. Mine was 22k , for 42k miles on it. (Loans are fun!
)Check out the FAQ, as mentioned above, and keep your eye on here, Autotrader, and 3si.org. Realize that these cars, especially Twin Turbos, are hard to come by, and even harder to find in decent shape. Don't jump at the first one you find, stick with it, until you find a quality one. Perserverance pays off.

Dont take this the wrong way. You seem to have your head in the right place, but i wouldnt recommend a VR-4/TT for anyone your age. theres many reasons...performance...income...insurance...drivi ng experience, to name a few. these are expensive cars to own, and if something goes wrong, a part-time income wont cut it. Repair bills are in the 1000s where other cars are in the 100s. Why do you want an SL instead? Wait a couple years for a VR-4? Anyway...That said, if your still going to get one, you seem to be headed in the right direction. Hey, your researching it so.. like those guys said though...good luck with that price range...i payed 10 for my 93 with 90k |

Re: Looking into a 3000GT VR-4
since you're looking for a bargain, im assuming you also dont have a whole lot of money to burn which would mean you have no money for parts if anything goes wrong.
you're going down the right track though, I was basically in the same situation a year and a half ago (i was 17 ) looking for a first gen vr4 for ~4000. as most anyone on this forum can tell you, thats impossible :P. you could get into a pretty decent 2nd gen sl for that though no problem. not as fast but still looks sexylicious. and it should be plenty fast if it is indeed your first car. i stuck with my 1985 prelude for almost 2 years before I even stepped foot in a vr4 and considering all the dumb crap i did in my prelude, its probably a good thing i didnt have over 300 horses under the hood, lol.

Re: Looking into a 3000GT VR-4
yea i am 17, turn 18 in december, i have been driving around a year and a half legaly, not saying how long illegaly, i have had a 1989 scirocco, then a 1991 honda prelude, and now a 1989 subaru, i still have my prelude, and the reason i am driving the subaru is because i live in north idaho and the winters are fairly harsh, and we live on top of a mountain, so no this wont be my first car, and i know quite a bit about them, have resarched forever, and was just looking for an inside from some owners, i plan to get a loan and sell my honda and drive the 3000gt, and keep my subaru, as is, if anyone does go wrong, i have a back up car, and i am awair of the 1000's of dollars needed to repair, i am mainly looking for something that i can fix up though and yet have a lot of fun driving fast
