Re: are thunder birds reliable

They are as reliable as any car that is taken care of. I have a 90SC with 168,000. Previous owner let it get run down, took some TLC to get it going again. But it is a good car.
Are you looking at an LX or what? The SC they stopped making in 95.

Re: are thunder birds reliable

I would try to stay away from the V6 just becuase of the head gasket issue (they tend to blow factory head gaskets pretty easily). If you find one that has been replaced (and you trust the source that told you it has been replaced) then they are good reliable cars. Like Bluebug said just good maitnance and it will be a good driver. They ride and handle pretty damn good too. The highway mileage is pretty good even on the 4.6L V8 (I have the 4.6 and I get about 23 mpg highway).

Re: are thunder birds reliable

My 1995 4.6 L has over 150K and it has never broke down. I get around 27mgp on the highway, so I can't complain about that. A car that is maintained well and not neglected should serve you well.

Re: are thunder birds reliable

Yeah great cars I've owned three of them. Just remember it will be as good as yo maintane it, and racing is hard on any car.

P.S my car has a 139,000 miles on it with the 4.6 and never had any problems
and she can still run down a civic!
