Fujimi Tuned Evo series comments
I just got the Fujimi Lancer Evo 7 Garage Shirokuma and thought I'd share some comments.
http://www.hlj.com/images/fuj/fuj18696box.gif Decals: Incredible detail sheet. I'll have to see if the white areas are really opaque. Body: Minimal mold lines. Clean enough for me. Chassis: Underside detailing is a bit soft and with rough texturing. Suspension arms look simplified compared to various Tamiya kits. I don't see any color guide for the bulk of the chassis anywhere in the instructions.. they only indicate black for the front and silver for the transmission areas. Interior: Are the speaker grilles supposed to be filled in? Seat detail is alright, but dashboard is dull. No seatbelts, as usual. Wheels: Brake discs are all wrong. The reference photos on the box side have much larger discs, especially at the front. The drilled holes in the rotors are missing too. Fujimi's instructions indicate the calipers are painted red, but they appear dull grey in the photos. The wheels are a brilliant chrome. It's a shame they have to be stripped and painted aluminium. They can benefit from valve stems and other parts too. Misc: Wipers: 2 sets are given, one for the original Evo 7 which are dull, and the new tuned wiper arms. These look very nice. Grilles: Plastic mesh. These should be done in photoetched brass. Rear wing: Nice, but the supports are a solid block. The holes in the photos are nowhere to be found. You'll need a motor tool to bore out the holes. |

2 more problems.
The real car has a complex rollcage inside. The fujimi kit has none! And it's not easy to scratchbuild either. The wheels Fujimi gives is also different from the one on the box. Does anyone know if there're any correct wheels available?

Thanks!
I wonder what happened to Fujimi's quality control. |

Got a question regarding the front logo of an evo 7.
Fujimi kits place the front mitsubishi logo on a peg held between the bonnet and lower front of the car. On the real car, is the logo mounted this way? |

hey sausage, those rims are actually a lot nicer than the ones that "should have" came with your kit. I got the cusco Evo 7 and it actually came with the right racing hart rims. They are tiny and far from the real thing. I'll have pics up soon. Once again, fujimi has cut corners by reusing the interior, chassis and suspension of the old evo V and VI kits.

By the way, can anyone recommend a good yellow for this car? Obviously Gunze H4 Yellow comes to mind, but I feel that the real car uses a slightly different shade of yellow.

Lanevo's are pretty cool. That kind of sucks how so many things are wrong. I think the rollcage would be really cool to have. Are you gonna try to scratch build it?

Hmm.. I noticed some other problems. The front seats are wrong! They're too short and of a different type than those in the photos, which I assume to be Sparco seats.
Right now I'm building the rollcage and could use some help. I believe the real car uses a Spec350 rollcage: ![]() I'm using 2mm brass tube to do this now. However, looking at the cage photo, there're some arms that go at a 45 degree angle into the rear. Fujimi's interior has 2 rear seats there, blocking these arms. Does the real car have these real seats, or do I need to totally rebuild the interior?

Hmm, looks like it has a stripped interior, so I'd say no it probably doesn't have rear seats. I might just leave out the interior tub altogether, scratchbuild some door panels and just use the steering wheel/dash. The dash is probably stripped too.
BTW, what happened to Jenny? Haven't seen "hiro" in a while |

Current progress:
Used a mix of camel yellow and Gunze H4 yellow. I think I made it a little too saturated. Decals look nice from far, but some use the wrong font, and some are too big. |
