Question Tock!

okie here we go.... was driving along to pick up supper and all of a sudden when taking off from a red light i begin to accelerate and TOCK! from front half of the van. pull over in a parking lot and accelerate again...TOCK!. put it in reverse and accelerate and TOCK! again. an old man in he parking lot thought something fell off the van and spun around to see what it was due to how loud it was.get home check fluids etc... have my wife get in while i walk along side to try to figure out where the noise is coming from but i cant pin point it. I got back in it a little later and it seems to be gone for the time being but im wondering if i should be worried or not? any help would be much appreciated. thanks

also just for info, the noise would occure between 5 and 10 km/h

Re: Tock!

Hi,

I'm not sure if it is the same type noise, but I had something like that happen to my Chevy Venture. You can read the story at the link below. Then follow the link at the bottom of that page to see the repair report. I may even have some pictures there.

Front End "Clunking Noise"

Take Care,

Re: Tock!

mmm..to me it sounds too familiar...part of the "front end syndrome" of that Transport generation; every now and then, one of the components in this front suspension needs replacement...much too frequently in my opinion, but this "tock" or "clunk" as described reminds me of each time I had to replace a lower ball joint. Not critical...but it will get worse and worse. IF original, you have to cut the 3 rivets out; if already a replacement part, just a bolt-off operation.
It could be a tie rod end as well.

Re: Tock!

Hello

I had a strange tock very loud when i was on Parking and accelarating.
It was coming from the automatic gear box. year after I had to change it

I have another kind of Tock when I put on D or R not loud and sound metallic , but I can't find the origin.

I have two questions :
what happens when the car is on Parking and is push violently by another car?
Does the gear box explode?
What happens if there is not enough oil in the gear box?

Thank you

Paul
