Autolite Spark Plug Question

Hi Folks,
Just put new spark plugs into my 2002 24V and all runs Great !!
My question is: I went to Advanced Auto parts and asked for Motorcraft double platium plugs. They said they didn't carry Motorcraft but Autolite double platium would work just as well? Did I screw up by using the Autolite???
Thanks for any advice folks !!
Rob Roy

Re: Autolite Spark Plug Question

I believe Motorcraft and Autolite are made by the same company. I don't think you will have a problem.

Motorcraft is a divison of the Ford Motor Company. Autolite is a divison of Honeywell Corporate Holdings.
On the Duratec engine I presonally would have went with Motorcraft +2 or +4 platinum rather than Autolite.

Re: Autolite Spark Plug Question

At the dealer, autolite was the only aftermarket plug we would put in Ford engines. Also, Ford doesn't actually own Motorcraft and Motorcraft doesn't actually make their own spark plugs (or most auto parts, for that matter) so I would not doubt that they both come from the same plant.

robroy55,

I've always thought Motorcraft and Autolite were the same plugs. BTW, how difficult was it to change the plugs?

Re: Autolite Spark Plug Question

yotermanic:
In the 1960s Ford purchased the Autolite Electrical Company a company that already produced 90% of all aftermarket Ford replacement parts. Ford wanted to change that. Ford sells the Autolite company to Bendix(now owned by Honeywell). Ford creates the Motorcraft company to be a competeing entity.

Autolite and Motorcraft plugs are not built at the same plant but generally preform to the same because they are built to the same exact OEM specifications.

I have serviced equipment in a Motorcraft plant.

BTW:
I was playing around in my Motorcraft Catalouge and they have repalced +4 Platinum Plugs with Fine Wire Platinum.

Not really bad at all. I just took off the upper passenger side cowling, took of the ingition coil and was able to get to all three back plugs. It is a all by feel process but was not bad. It took me about two hrs. for just the back plugs but it was my first time doing this. Next time, it will be a LOT faster now that I have it down.
Take Care,

Re: Autolite Spark Plug Question

Try NKG super double platinum with sodium extenders.
