obd 2 smog check problems

so they hooked up my obd to the computer and said the o2 and cat wasn't ready and would fail if they do the test. i have driven over 200 miles on and off with cold starts and it still gives a not ready sign when i go to the smog check place. i'm trying to find the ecu fuse to see if it's blown but can't find out where it is? does anyone know how far i have to drive to know when it's ready?

if i do have to get a new ecu are all 96-00 civic ecu's compatable? manual/auto and dx,lx,ex vtec,hx? there is a auto hx one for really cheap on ebay. i have a 4 door lx auto civic

Re: obd 2 smog check problems

you tried the search function?

click on tab.

type in fuse.

click on the results until you come across the under hood fuse box diagrams (hint: the location of the ecu fuse is already in this sentence).

Did your smogger run the actual test or does he think it is not going to pass?
And the monitors are what you are having problems with. You should have 8 monitors that the smog machine checks, and here is the topper you only need six of them set to complete to pass. Also if you reset the ecu you will have to run the drive cycles to set them again. As for how far you need to drive no I don't know.

One more thing if you can check the monitors your ECU fuse is not blown.

Re: obd 2 smog check problems

he ran the smog check and hooked a cable to the obd2. everything passed except for the mil/check engine light. i took it to him a week later he plugged it in and show me on his screen saying the o2 sensor, cat converter, and something else wasn't ready yet so i had to drive some more. i finally found the ecm/ecu fuse. it's not labeled correctly on the fuse box thats why i couldn't find it. but i found a 10 amp fuse. it's supposed to be a 7.5 amp fuse. so i replaced it with the correct fuse. hope it wasn't damaged by the 10 amp fuse. i'll drive it around for a week then take it to the smog check person again.

OK, so you need one more, also the check engine light has to be off. It has to work, and no codes are stored.

Good luck

Re: obd 2 smog check problems

after 300 miles of driving after resetting and putting the correct ecu fuse in, the o2 sensor and cat converter is still not ready for the smog check. is there a specific way i have to drive? or do i have to go through 40 drive cycles?

i don't think codes are stored on the ecu because its reset. the check engine light does work and comes on when the ignition is on and when i turn the car on it goes off and doesn't come on at all while driving. should i get an obd2 scanner?

Remember when I said this:
You should have 8 monitors that the smog machine checks, and here is the topper you only need six of them set to complete to pass.

Minus the cat and O2 you have six so you should pass.

As for Specific way to drive it the monitors are all different, some are at 45mph for five minutes, and so on.
I do not have the ability to get you the info or I would. But you should pass.

You might give a dealer a call to see what the drive cycle consist of. Like I said I don't have the resources. And the last monitor is probably you evap monitor.

Sorry I can't help you out more than that.
