I'm thinking about boosting a b18B1 powered LS/GS Integra. I can easily put a home made turbo setup together with a T25 or 14B turbo, Starion FMIC and some home shaped 2.25" piping along with a 1G DSM BOV. I'm wondering if the B18B1 is really as strong as people say...with 9:1 compression I imagine it can handle a decent amount of boost? Say 8-9 psi or can I go higher?

if you're going turbo, its best to go with a full 3.0" exaust. it will help out with turbo lag and you will get more increased power with better response than going with a 2.25". 2.25" is like stock diameter. |

B18B
I am also looking into a B18B for my 2000 hatchback.I have a few friends that are gonna build me a motor. Low compression pision, crower rods, low compression head gasket , and ported and polished heads and a 5 angle valve job. also they are talking about putting cams in it. I think toda is what they are. i was gonna run this for a while until i get my T4 turbo kit.

why not go with low compression pistons ? more boost

compression is a form of power. when the pistons compress more, you'll make more power. so when you lower the compression, you also take away some power. and yes, you can run more boost afterwards, but mostly you'll just be replacing the power that you lost throught lowering the compression. it will take a B18B engine about 13psi, just to gain the same power as a B18C1 with 10psi. there are lots of benefit going with higher compression than with lower compression. 1. when you're not on boost, the higher compression acts like a normal N/A motor, making its power through compression. so even when you're not on boost, you'll get power. 2. spool up times demand cfm and velocity from the engine. the more cfm and velocity you have, the faster the turbo will spool up. the more compression you have, the more exaust you put out the engine. 3. with the higher boost, you'll run less boost, letting the turbo spin slower. when it spins slower, it reduces wear, letting it live a longer life. at some point you have to lower it. don't think you can run lots of boost with 12.5:1 pistons. lisa kubo is running 11.0:1 pistons with 30psi. the perfect compression for tuning capability and power gains is 10.5:1

b series motors are very strong i have 11 psi on a b18c1 w/ a charger so idont have an intercooler and it holds it. the only thing that b18b doesnt have is forged pistons so be careful. remember more boost= more power= more engin wear. but boost doesnt blow your motor up* or give you power*... timing is key in every thing more timing = more power but to much timing = detonation= blown motor, rings, pistons etc. if it were me on a stock bottom end i wouldnt push my luck so i wouldnt go over 10psi. :smoker2:

when i had my stock B18B1 motor i was running 8 psi fine w/ the v-afc hack. and this was untuned. having lower compression just gives you a wider range to tune with so you avoid detonation. your turbo may have to work a little bit harder to provide you with more air but it'll sure be worth it in the long run. also lisa doesn't have a STOCK block anymore and she can AFFORD the all out expensive tuning that is needed to run the compression that she's running and to add to that she doesn't run on pump fuel. so IMHO, running low compression on the a daily driven motor is the way to go.
