Question springs and shocks vs. coilovers...HELP

I'm not too familiar with cars but I am planning on getting shocks and springs to lower my car. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what brands I should go for? I need a little help with learning what the difference is in brands, which ones are good, what the difference is between coilovers and springs. I have a little idea but want to know a lot more before I start buying these parts. Yes I'm a newbie and need help~!!!

I see you have a new 02 civic, what I about to say is my own opinion, but you might find a some group of people might agree with me.

Save your money and practice driving safely on your stock car until you "know your car" and feel the needs for a certain parts to increase that certain performance, than you will appreciate the difference after the upgrade. After all your shocks and springs are still new, why waste them.

Most people don't know what they are doing with their car and see modifying as a trend, and a lot of people lower their car as soon as they got it or out the dealer's lot because their parents are rich. I personally don't think that person will learn much about their car or skill, but what the hack, it's their money.

If you can afford it, I highly recommend doing it the right way the first time around, and getting a set of "true" coilovers such as Teins or H&R's. You won't be sorry with them. Yeah they cost more than a shock and spring combo, but it's WELL worth the $$$ when you get them ,and feel how nice they ride. Nothing beats springs specifically matched to shocks by a single manufacture.
