oil leakage

i've got a 97 escort and it has a stubborn oil leak on front of the block that has got me puzzled. its closest to the auto transmission bellhousing but its kinda hard to see because its behind the manifold. but it looks like its in the area where head meets block (headgasket?????)maybe but i don't see any coolant mixed in at all. valve cover and gasket stays dry so thats been ruled out. i haven't figured out where th oil pressure switch is yet any suggestions???????
