Hi there, your brake lamp is most likely inoperative due to a blown globe. It is quite simple to replace, but if you are not sure, I would drop past your closest bmw dealer and they will most likely do it for small or no charge while you wait. As for the coolant warning lamp on, I wood definetly have that looked at asap. you can check the coolant level yourself, by removing the radiator cap and filling it to max ONLY WHILE THE ENGINE IS COLD! 540's are known for coolant loss faults.

Hey there, good to hear you worked out your brake lamp fault. With the check coolant warning coming up, the most comman causes would be an airlock in the cooling system or a faulty coolant level sensor. You can bleed the cooling system by openning the radiator cap, and backing off the bleeder screw next to the cap. Bleed the air from the system with the screw cracked open approx 2-3 turns, the ignition on, the heater on hot and fan speed one, this will allow water to travel through your heater core. Keep filling the radiator while bleeding the system. Once all the air is out and there is a steady stream of coolant coming out, you can close the
bleeder screw, but do not overtighten it (plastic). Give this a go.

mate the only other suggestion is to replace your coolant level sensor, it is located at the bottom of the expansion tank (reservior)
