Re: Airbag module?

Airbag module??? The one in the wheel???, or the pass side dash?? Or are you talking about the electronic crash sensor??? Airbag systems are dangerous to work on if you're not familiar with them, if you've got side bags, even fooling around with the door panels can be hazardous,, a lot of online sites will not even entertain questions of airbag repair.

There are no airbags in it now. I'm just buying parts. I know they are dangerous, and i have done it before. just not on a Ford. The module i'm looking for is a Restraint Control Module (RCM).

Re: Airbag module?

The factory Ford service manual does not make any mention of the RCM. I suspect instead you are interested in the Electronic Crash Sensor (ECS). Per the FSM:

The SRS consists of two basic subsystems:
  • driver air bag module and passenger air bag module
  • electrical system, including air bag electronic crash sensor (ECS) module
The air bag electronic crash sensor (ECS) module:

l discriminates between an event that warrants frontal air bag deployment and an event that does not.

l signals the inflators to deploy the air bags in the event of a deployable crash.

l monitors the air bag supplemental restraint system (SRS) for faults.

l illuminates the air bag indicator if a fault is detected.

l flashes the air bag indicator to indicate the lamp fault code (LFC) detected.

l communicates through the data link connector (DLC) the current and historical diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs).

l activates a chime in the Generic Electronic Module (GEM) if the air bag indicator is not available and another SRS system fault exists.

(1) Disconnect the battery ground cable (14301) and wait at least one minute.

(2) Pull back the floor carpet from underneath the instrument panel at the center tunnel and position out of the way.

(3) Disconnect the air bag electronic crash sensor (ECS) module electrical connector locking clip and electrical connector.

(4) Remove the ECS module retaining nuts.

(5) Remove the ECS module.

Re: Airbag module?

Crash sensor is located on the tunnel under the dashboard, for side bags, sensor would be in the pillar between the doors, near the bottom.. as for the rcm, don't have any info on that, possible you're talking about the seatbelt retractor system???
