Re: 96 Eclipse with a Problem
that mod you listed wont make the engine light come on. they can't get anything with their computer? thats odd... if you throw a cel then something is up. take it to auto zone see if they can tell you what the light is from.

Re: 96 Eclipse with a Problem
The CEL is not from is being bored out, if it even was. Like nova said, take it to Autozone or somewhere similar that runs codes for free and get the code. You might also want to take it to a mechanic you trust and have him give the car a good look over, because odds are whoever you bought it from was not honest on it's condition.

Re: 96 Eclipse with a Problem
ok i'll try that
i just hope these people didnt mess too much up in the car that i cant get it fixed cuz i really like the car the paint is awesome 2 video monitors ps2 1000watt system blitz body kit pretty damn fast too runs really nice sucks that they have to do the emissions from the computer cuz it would pass if they just stuck the sensor in the tail pipe |

Re: 96 Eclipse with a Problem
ok i took it down to get it checked to see why the cel was on and they said the little plug in that sends out the signal isnt getting any power
any idea how hard it is to track down the wires that give that box power he also said that could be why the light is on neways i got the repair book and i am gonna take a look at it today |

Re: 96 Eclipse with a Problem
Wait, so they cant pull a code because the plug in for the diagnostics isnt getting power? Fuck man, I have a bad feeling for you about this car. Sixty thousanths is a long ways to bore it out due to normal wear, something must've gone pretty wrong to have to go out .060". I would definately take it to a trusted mechanic for a good look over.

Re: 96 Eclipse with a Problem
well i dunno if they did that to fix wear on the motor or to improve the hp
when i bought the car it said new High Perf motor with 5k miles on it |

Re: 96 Eclipse with a Problem
Sounds to me like they bent you over and stuck it in your ass. If they can't even check codes because the OBDII plug doesn't have any power then you're screwed. You need a wiring schematics to find the problem where the OBDII wiring is wrong. And the only reason that anyone would bore it to .060 is because of some major damage and wear. You wouldn't get much hp increase with just boring it out
And high performance motor my ass, it's probably junk and always has been, they just sold it to let someone else deal with the problems. |

Re: 96 Eclipse with a Problem
well i dont even know if they really bored out the motor or not
i'm probably just gonna run to a shop and let them take a look at it hopefuly it wont cost me too much to find out the problem |

Re: 96 Eclipse with a Problem
I think there are problems in that car that lie deeper than just the motor, especially if you can't even pull codes from it.

Quote:
If it's at the dealership, they will tell you things that you "may" need to have replaced within the next 10k-15k miles. If you have a connector on a harness that needs to be fixed or replaced, instead of replacing just the connector, they will tell you to get a whole new harness (which could be a differnce of $8 or $800. My buddy had his car in their for a clutch warranty and he told them to kinda just look things over and they found $4,300 worth of things that they said should be fixed. That was 2 years ago and 20k miles later. To this day the only thing that has gone wrong with it was the throwout bearing. Now it seems to me that they would have installed it correctly at the dealership right? Well, they didn't and they wouldn't warranty it because "that's not the part that they were covering under warranty when he brought it in the first time." Smells like bullshit to me. I refuse to go to the Mitsubishi dealer around here because for 1) it's 2 hours away, and 2) there's a chrylser dealership in my town and I know the parts man pretty well so I just get parts for a talon and put them in my Eclipse (plus I get a lil discount too )

Re: 96 Eclipse with a Problem
The guy obviously has serious issues with his car and he has no idea of the history of it. Having somebody go through and check the car out and tell him things that are wrong with it for $80 seems worth it to me. Yeah they will suggest things that might not need to be replaced, but you can always ignore the things you know are fine. In his situation it seems like a good idea to me.

Re: 96 Eclipse with a Problem
I completely agree with you on having it checked out, but I've even seen cases where someone takes it to the dealer to get it tuned-up or even looked at, and they've replaced things, without first consulting the owner. And then they give you the excuse "we thought you wanted us to look it over and fix the problems."
If he doesn't have a local mechanic that he trusts and is reliable, then the dealership would be the next best bet, but I would suggest a private mechanic or business before the dealer. Again though, it's just my opinion. |
