Putting a 3kGT dohc in the 10sec. range...

I'm currently tuning up, rebuilding trans, eventually adding a flow master/straight pipes, and have a power adder CAI installed

What else?

Well that should get you to the 15's

Now add some big fucking turbos and all supporting mods. you should be set

Saphus, do you have a VR4?

if not, then just throw on a 400 shot of nitrous, and that should get you close to 10s, maybe 11s. and have fun with the FWD launch.

if you have a VR4, then the CAI should give you a whopping 50 hp, maybe throw on a sticker or two while your at it.

How about 1 electric turbo? (it's all I can afford)

*edit*nope not vr4 but it has dohc puts it at 222hp stock...

Re: Putting a 3kGT dohc in the 10sec. range...

read the FAQ sticky thread. that should tell you a lot about these cars. you picked a good one to learn about, seriously.

if you want to learn more than the FAQ and all its links to other sites has to offer, then register over at 3si.org and read/search through their forums.

Re: Putting a 3kGT dohc in the 10sec. range...

Read the FAQ.

A '10 second car' is something that everybody thinks is possible to build with bolt-ons in their driveway thanks to the fast and furious. IN reality, 1 SL has done it, and he has put tons of time, work, money, and turbos into doing it.

And only like a dozen or so vr4s have made it. It isn't easy is hte point. You need BIG turbos, and plenty of supporting mods.

Check out hte FAQ.

Electric turbos aren't worth the postage you pay to ship them.

Ditto. VR4's have problems getting in the 10's, much less the FWD version. I'd set my goal at 12's if I were you.

I'll second that. You migh as well just buy one of those sound makers that maked it sound like you have a turbo and BOV under the hood. Simpily not worth it. And I agree with the others. To put a VR4 much less a SL into 10's is near impossible without a big bank account and a lot of mechanical know how. Our cars simpily don't have that much aftermarket as oppose to other cars competing agianst it. ie: Supra, Rx-7, 300zx

Re: Putting a 3kGT dohc in the 10sec. range...

you will need real turbos to get anywhere near 10, start at an easier goal, 12-13 and work from there.
400 shot of nitrous??? LOL

Ok... laugh if you like... before today i wasn't ABSOLUTELY sure that 10 sec implied 1/4 mile in 10 seconds... i just picked something that seemed fast and ran with it however if I can get it to 15 (now understanding what all that implies) I'll be happy.

Right now it should be in the 15s. With bolt-on intake and exhaust modifications, you maybe able to get down to the 14s with decent driving. Lower times are possible with nitrous/supercharger/turbos.

There is nothing wrong with not knowing everything. Everyone has to start somewhere. 5 years ago, I couldn't tell you if my Honda was turbod or not...true story Stick around and you'll pick up plenty.

But if you make another post like this we are going to have to take your car away and give it to someone more worthy.

If you really want to get it in the ten second range you could put it on an airplane...

Well for not knowing much you sound like your off to a good start. Exhaust and intake are the ideal first step. That should get you into the 14s. After that, you can start looking into forced induction (ie. Turbocharger/Supercharger). I would steer you away from the latter. There are very few succesfully supercharged 3/s cars. Instead, when the time comes, look into a twin turbo conversion. All the parts are readily available (from VR-4s and R/T TTs) and its been done on dozens of cars so there are write-ups to follow and all the questions are already answered. That will put you in the 12s or so, depending on what size turbos you get. Keep in mind though, anything too much bigger than the stock VR-4/TT 9bs will need supporting mods (bigger injectors, fuel pump, etc) which can run up quite a bill. The 10-sec range is not out of the question, but like Igo said, it will take LOTS of time and money....and HUGE fcuking turbos lol

and welcome to AF man...car looks nice! throw some pics of that pig up on the "photos of your ride" thread!
