Bad Starter, Bad Battery or Bad Alternator
I replaced my heads on my 1999 Malibu and started it up. It started very slowly like the battery was weak (it sat for about 2 weeks before I repaired it). Anyways, it started very slowly all day. Finally, it would not start. I had the battery checked and it read "bad battery" and I replaced it. It sounds like the starter might be bad because it went real slow for about 2 seconds then it started and this happened 3 - 4 times throughout the day. QUESTION: Does this sound like a normal starter problem or can it be the alternator? I know the "clicking" sound of a bad starter, but this would wind the engine real slowly and then click or just click. HELP!

Re: Bad Starter, Bad Battery or Bad Alternator
It seems that the starter is bad so I took it off and tested it - it would not turn so Its off to the next step.

Re: Bad Starter, Bad Battery or Bad Alternator
Bad cables and connections could also cause a problem, but it sounds like you nailed the prob.

Re: Bad Starter, Bad Battery or Bad Alternator
Yeah Mr. Big Shot Tractorguy - I guess I am the only one bad mouthing GM? You wonder what all these posts are about? Lets sing the praises of GM? Well, I did not start a petition. If you knew something about this website you would have seen many petitions already filed so I don't need any. I bet you are an undercover GM customer service guy jacking all of us around and enjoying it. Well, its no fun to me to have to work on a car so much when all it took from the beginning was Quality.
