Red face How many miles do you have on your TB ? Is your truck ticking ?

I have a little over 101,000. Gas Mileage is pretty good. 20-22mpg. Truck is ticking like crazy. Coming from the top on the drivers side. Someone mentioned that is could be the fuel injector system. Put the Stp fuel injector cleaner in the Gas tank. No resolution. I believe the fan clutch is on the passengers side so I don't believe its that. Anyone else have this problem ? Someone else said it sounds like the lifters or valves. It seems to last about 5 to 10 minutes. Then sort of quiets down never goes away totally. Should I really be concerned with this ? Is this a common problem ? I checked the Vin number it doesn't fall under the category where they first started having problems with those engines. I have a Chevy Trailblazer 2002 LS 4.2. Looks and feels great. But the ticking is driving me crazy.

You need to have this looked at by someone who is familiar with these engines, noises require on site diagnosis.

My '02 LTZ just turned 60,000 miles yesterday. Mostly city, with a few thousand highway miles thrown in. No ticking noises, but that fan noise drives me crazy! All in all, a damn good truck. But when that extended warranty runs out, I drop it like a hot 'tater.

Re: How many miles do you have on your TB ? Is your truck ticking ?

gkelly, have you had the TB since new? Did this noise just start? Every 4.2L I've ever heard sounds a little diesely for a minute on a cold start. My 2005 @ 19Kmi included. Some surmize it as 'piston slap'. I've owned newer pushrod GM V6's with piston slap and that sounds different to me. Your problem could be as simple as a belt driven accessory, but if your plan is to keep your truck, I'd have a reputable shop do a cold start on it & troubleshoot further.

G/luck

Don't worry it is a dashport related either speedodometer or RPM indicators noise, very common and nothing to worry.

If you can hear it from outside the truck, it's not the noisy tachometer.
