Does the engine crank/turn over or are you getting a click or nothing when you turn the key? Which engine?

Re: '91 grand caravan wont start please help
A constant clicking noise means the battery is dead, lights will still come on, but a starter motor draws more current than the lights.
A single click means the starter contacts are bad. No clicks means the starter contacts are completely oxidized. |

Re: '91 grand caravan wont start please help
The starter contacts are inside the starter.
Some people replace those instead of buying a new starter. What happens when you try a jump start? |

Re: '91 grand caravan wont start please help
If all you were getting was a click, one of two things is causing the problem. Either the battery is too weak to turn the starter or as was stated the starter solinoid contacts or the starter itself is toast.
Get a buddy to jump start the car with jumper cables. If it starts, it's likely the battery is weak. If the battery is more than three years old don't bother with a recharge and load test. Just buy a new battery. If it doesn't start, change the starter. |
