Escort GT vs V8 T-Bird... gone wrong.

My friend has this kid at his work who talks mad shit about his car. Its a mid 90's Escort GT 5-spd, with intake, exhaust, and a monster tach. We he pulls into the gas station im sittin at with my friends, and the convo goes like this

me: "You wanna run?"
him: "what you got?"
me: "that teal thing over there" (pointing to car)
me: "run for $20?"
him: "ionno man, I've heard that things a sleeper.."
pause..
him: "you wanna run, im game"
me: "for fun??"
him: "yea, do you know a place to go?"
me: "not anywhere close, you"
him: "yeah, follow me.."

we head a few miles down the road to some residential street. (I know. dumb.)

he pulls to the left, and i get next to him, we converse..

him: "you keepin her in there" (talking bout my female freind with me)
me: "yeah.)
him: "aight, ill keep my passengers.."

He revs it up, I'm like huh? already.. DAMN!

I powerbrake it to about 1500, without warning he jumps, and takes off, with some wheel spin. I pop the brake, and my right rear grabs for traction. Off the line, the GT gets a car length since my 3.08's are horrible from a stop. The 225 GT HR II's grab full traction, and gets some running speed. By 60 were dead even, and I'm pulling him like crazy. By 90, I'm a car length ahead, and still going, by 110, I have a bus length on him. I shut it down right about here. Point made.

he pulls up to me..

him: "If I didnt have my extra weight, I would have gotten ya"
me: (rolls eyes) "wanna try again?"
him: "aight, thats cool"

we turn around, and head back to the beginning. I get halfway back, and some woman is standing in the middle of the street. Shit. I pull into a driveway, and head back the otherway. Escort GT peels off. NO OUTLET! My friend with his S10 tried to keep up with us, so hes with us now too. Theres 3 ways. Left, right & straight. Left is a long driveway, straight and right are unfinished roads. My friend in the S10 pulls up "WTF WE GONNA DO!?" I say "Go to the left, its just a field!.. I'll follow!" Instead he turns around and goes out the main road. By now theres a dozen people outside on the road. everyone on the phone, and a guy with a cam corder. SONOFASHITFUCK! We get the hell out of there, and converse at the strip mall My female friend says "I would have suggested take your plates off" I give her a blank/wtf stare.. "thanks for telling me NOW!"

I havent heard anything from the popo.. so... ionno..

that guy's a genius, you should have made him pick another spot that was better. you're better off stopping traffic on a feeder and burning the street from there. most people from houston pull that over here.

I doubt you have anything to worry about. I can't say the same for the Escort dumbass.

Might wanna be cautious with those escorts though, as some of them are actually turbocharged. Not that they are drag strip warriors, but you never know. Those turbocharged ones and the XR4Ti can be made pretty quick.

I'm beginning to question your knowledge of cars. Here is a website on one dude's Escort GT, and some track times for various other Escort GT's:
http://www.dragtimes.com/Ford-Escort-Timeslip-6129.html

In addition you might wanna do some research on the Ford Escort Cosworth.

Whoa whoa. I was just making a statement about how rice(er) is talking about a car that can be modded into a street racer. That is all. I refuse to argue and I meant no offense. lol

Just a mild mannered joke guys, c'mon.

Re: Escort GT vs V8 T-Bird... gone wrong.

That guy with the escort was obviously a retard.

as far as the escorts go, they can be pretty quick. the lastest gen with the Zetec engine actually wasnt that bad... not to mention very very reliable.

Escorts may be quick but by the second race the plugs need replaceing, the water pump springs a leak, tranny goes, and your mountian dew spills onto your nice sterio
