Angry 6.2 Diesel won't start when hot?

Have a 6.2 diesel whith a banks turbo. Somtimes hard starting...not abnormal for the 6.2 but when the engine gets hot, runs fine until you shut it off then will not start until left for an hour. Just bought so I have no history on recent repairs or changes.

Check your fuel filter. They fill up with water fast and will cause that problem. Almost need to carry and extra fuel filter with you for emergencies and their not very expensive. You might also have a water drain on it.

Sounds like the starter, most likely the solenoid, just can't take the heat any more. Sometimes an aging battery is good enough most of the time, just can't pump enough juice above a certain temperature.

Problem is, by the time you pull the starter and take it to the auto parts store for a test, it's cooled off!

Only place I've heard of that can hot bench-test starters is the So
Cal Speed Shop. If you're running at Bonneville, you need a starter that works in the desert!

If your fuel filter, battery, charging system, etc, all check out ok and it keeps doing this, try swapping the starter for a quality replacement and cross your fingers.

Does the engine crank at all. If the engine does crank then is more than likley the injector pump as amafyrfytr said. We have the same 6.2 engines in the Army Humvee. When our engines don't start we poor ice cold water on the injector pump and it starts right up. This could be risky with your truck because there are alot of other electrical components under the hood. So if you want to test this theory then use caution. If does not even crank then it could be the starter.
