Re: 94 ranger 2.3 t-belt replacement help...
I have had four diferent Ford 2300cc motors. Timing belts are not difficult at all. A surpentine belt makes it more difficult, as the idler pulley gets in the way. You do have to remove the crank pulley and the water pump pulley. Timing cover is held on by 4 or 5 bolts, later models are plastic. After you get the cover off, you will have to line up all three timing marks, as the distributor/oil pump have a gear of their own. There is a tensioner pulley in the middle that has a heavy spring on it. There is a large bolt in the middle of it and a small one just below. Loosen both and push it out of the way, then retighten the small one to hold it there. Remove the old belt and install new one, making sure marks stay aligned. Loosen bolt holding tensioner pulley and let it push against the belt. Retighten it and the large one.

Re: 94 ranger 2.3 t-belt replacement help...
it sure helps to have or borrow a pulley removal tool!
i just replaced mine, it was all pretty easy, just time consuming. my t-belt broke AND crankshaft sensor had to be replaced. while in there i replaced the water pump and thermostat. my Haynes manual was helpful but didnt have enough pics to help me with that specific engine. i went to the dealership and got a print out diagram after asking where the crankshaft sensor was. that diagram from the dealership helped out a lot. they priced a new Crank Sensor at $310 but i got it at a parts store for $120. the thermostat was very cheap, the water pump was $16 w/ core and i forget what the t-belt costed. i was too busy to put everything back together so a mechanic charged me $150 to do it, but he also replaced cleaned my injectors, changed my plugs, wires and crank sensor. i gave him all the parts needed so he only charged me labor. |
