Maybe I'm blind or just stupid, but is there a tutorial on how to install springs somewhere?
I guess what my question is is can I uphook the strut from the strut tower, lower the whole arms, use a spring compressor, and pull the spring out? Or do I have to take off the whole shock? Will it slide over the top of the strut itself? Thanks!

Re: Spring Install
you have to pull the whole thing out, compress the spring, and then pull the mount off and reverse the process

Re: Spring Install
It's alot easier if you take off the whole thing and just compress the spring out of the car. Otherwise you're battling with it inside a confined area.

Re: Spring Install
if you dont already have a spring compressor, i suggest just taking the whole assembly out (for all four) and taking to a shop. i paid $30 for them to mount on new shocks and springs onto my existing strut tower, bolted them back in and i was good to go. $30 and they do all the work or pay aroung the same for a tool you will use once on your car.

Re: Spring Install
Yeah... Autozone rents them out. You pay up front, but then get your money back when you bring it back. Does anyone have pics of the process or a tutorial? Pics talk more than words do. ;-)
Thanks guys.

Re: Spring Install
I have changed my springs twice and have never used a spring compressor. Just lift the car off the ground. Loosen all the bolts on top including the one on the strut rod. then loosen the one in the wheel well. Dissasemble the strut/spring assembly, re-assemble it with the new spring and or strut. Install the assembly then lower the car. Weight of the car makes a great spring compressor.
Its been fine for me.

Re: Spring Install
Is that even safe? lol. Where is the bolt on the strut rod?
So basically, I can lift the car, undo the bolts uptop, drop the assembly and pull the spring out, right?

Re: Spring Install
OK the right way to do it is jack the car up, take off the wheel, take off the two pinch bolts on the knuckle that hold the bottom of the strut on and then take off the 4 bolts or whatever on the top for the mount and the whole thing will drop out. Then you need a spring compressor and compress the spring and take off the one big bolt in the center top of the mount and then verything will come apart and then reverse it

Re: Spring Install
Make sure the springs or coil overs stay on the strut whenever you are releasing the jack or it coudl cause u some trouble. Watch all the springs settle by letting the jack down really really slow
