Unhappy F150 Will Not Start, Please Help

The truck began bucking some time ago and the module was "diagnosed" as the problem. I allowed the truck to sit about 6 months, then bought a new module, but the truck would not start. The truck has now been sitting for some time. I had to replace the starter. With the help of a friend, we have determined the vehicle with start with fuel/ether applied directly to the intake. The fuel pump relay is kicking on when the ignition is turn on. I have tried listening for the fuel pump itself, but I don't know what I'm listening for. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm tired of this truck just sitting. It was and I believe, probably still is, a good truck. Please help me drive it again. Thanks in advance.

Re: F150 Will Not Start, Please Help

First off, what year? what engine? 4x4? what trans? If its an early fuel injection (86-88?) I believe the fuel pump is located on the driver's side frame rail even with the rear of the transmission. If its not there, its in the fuel tank. But, it sounds to me like you have a fuel issue. Its possible the fuel filter is plugged, or the sock on the fuel pump is plugged. This is the route I would suggest. The fuel pressure spec. for 4.9L (300 cu. in.) is around 45psi, all others 30-35psi. I hope I have helped in some way, good luck!

Re: F150 Will Not Start, Please Help

Hey, thanks for the reply. Kind of stupid, eh, not putting the year and engine? Anyway, the fuel pump did the trick. The truck is idling low, however. It is a 1990, 2-wheel drive, 4.9L, single metal tank. The truck ran fine when parked, other than the bucking action. Any ideas about what may be causing the low idle?
