still a fuzzy fuel gauge

1998 K1500:
Well, I replaced my NEW AM fuel pump with an OEM pump hoping it would resolve the fuzzy fuel gauge problem but, no luck. However the OEM unit does seem to perform better and is much more quiet. I did inspect the pumps connections and everything seemed normal, i also took extra care to clean and grease the connections. i looked at the float swing arm contacts and it seemed to make good contact. things like vibrating fuel gauges really irritate me, i hope i can find a solution.

i have heard other solutions like, a program within the computer that averages the signal sent by the fuel sender, i have heard that is the cause.
i have also heard that the ground coming off the pump assembly is the cause, and that the contacts on the sender assembly itself is the cause.

anyone had who has had this problem found any solutions,

I have tried all these except for the computer program

any ideas??

Question Re: still a fuzzy fuel gauge

Have you checked or replaced the gauge?

Re: still a fuzzy fuel gauge

no, i have not replaced the gauge, although someone else has suggested it. he said the whole gauge cluster needs to go to a gm certified tech to replace the gauge cause its sealed. I dont have a lot of time to take my truck down and wait on the dealer. something for the future.

Re: still a fuzzy fuel gauge

i went to the dealer today to ask about replacing the fuel gauge they said: the entire gauge cluster has to be replaced and ordered from GM custom for your truck because the odometer needs to be set at the factory to match the old one. the cost? $400 plus tax, ouch!, maybe ill put this off.
