93 Camry w/5S-FE...fuel odor
I have a 93 Camry with a 2.2L and I just changed the head gasket a couple months ago. Then I had to change the distributor a week or two ago, and ever since then, it has a very strong fuel odor under the hood after its been driven. I plan on setting the timing on it today, since I didnt when I changed the distributor (Ive been busy and this is my first chance to). Its not leaking fuel underneath, but the odor is very strong, so I imagine its leaking somewhere and is probably evaporating before it has time to actually drip underneath. Any ideas on what could cause this or where a good place to start looking would be? Could I have possibly hooked up a hose wrong, etc? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!! Thanks in advance and have a great day!!! CDJr

Did you neglect to replace the seals at the fuel injectors, or get one installed slightly crooked? |

Re: 93 Camry w/5S-FE...fuel odor
I had a strong gas odor fuel smell that I traced to the air temperature sensor that plugs into the air intake filter box after the air filter.
Easy, easy fix; the sensor had fell out ( okay I might have forgotten to replace it ) of the air intake box and wacked out the right mix; or let some exhaust gas recirculate to the engine compartment. I would momentarily pick up the odors while driving and had crummy fuel economy. |
