Clutch or transmison

Ok if anyone knows this please help... I have a 2002 Eclipse Gt. an every time i go to put it in first gear. It wont fucking move. I have to get it up to 4,000 rpms for it to start to go. An its kinda the same in all the other gears. Soo would it be the clutch or the transmison???? thanks- an sorry for the spelling

Re: Clutch or transmison

^^ I would second that. I wouldn't think that would be transmission related.

Re: Clutch or transmison

Although, if the problem is really as bad as you say it is...i dont think a clutch would just give out like that with no prior failure. Something doesnt sound right...

Re: Clutch or transmison

yes, but again...if it was a problem that had been getting worse, i dont think he would be asking what the problem was. If your clutch starts slipping, the first few times it may be a suprize, but after it kept doing it, and getting worse I am pretty sure you would know what the deal was. I just cant believe he waited until it got this bad to start thinking there was a problem. IDK, maybe it's just me...but If i ever let m clutch out and nothing happenes......to the shop ASAP.

Re: Clutch or transmison

Now I know with my clutch I could feel it slip when I got on the gas. I brought it to the shop 5 days later and had my new clutch put in. I know for a fact you can tell when your clutch is going out and if he had waited this long then I don't think it's the clutch. Or at least that is not the whole problem.

Re: Clutch or transmison

True True.
What he needs to do is give more info (When it started, is it only in forward gears or in reverse also, did he power brake, pop his clutch alot, ect.)

Unless I am mistaken...power braking, or I call it a "brake stand", is how you start a burnout in a RWD car.......I think my question should be obvious
