stumped please help

I have a 1997 gtp with approx. 180,000 miles. The car runs fine with the exception of about once every week it goes into a stalling problem. Driving along, and it just dies like it lost spark. Throw it in neutral and it starts right up and will run for about 5-10 seconds and will die again. It will do this for a while and as fast as it came the problem will disappear. It will reappear a few days to a week later. I had a mechanic look at it twice and he is stumped. Hes not getting any code. He changed the crank senser the last time and I still have the problem. Anyone have have any thoughts?

Check the wire or connections from the cps to the icm also could get the ign control module tested, but may only fail hot, could also be the ignition switch, any other accessories go out at the same time?

Re: stumped please help

Since you've already changed out the crank position sensor I'd look at a fuel problem. Check fuel pressure at the Schrader valve on the fuel injector rail. 48 - 55 psi.

Also, you may have a bad fuel pump resistor so the fuel pump is not putting out enough pressure and flow because the fuel pump hi-speed relay is not energizing.

L67 GTP has a fuel pump that has two speeds.

No accessories go out and the problem will occur when engine is hot or cold.

Well 2 areas are suggested, Bob says could be fuel pump resistor, this can be tested as well as the pressure, a pressure test should show this especially under load driving and of couse ign. switch or icm. All educated guess work based on the symptoms, the icm could pass and be bad, same as the fuel pump unless you can test it during the event. Toughie, as erratic as you say.

Re: stumped please help

I'm in agreement with Bob and Max. A fuel pressure test will rule out the fuel pump/resistor. The ignition side is much tougher to track.
