Intermittant dying while driving 1994 Olds 88

A few weeks ago my trusty olds developed a strange problem. While driving after 10-20 miles the engine sputters, the speedometer goes wild, all the lights come on including check engine and the engine dies. I shift to neutral and restart the engine and then it runs fine for a few miles and does it again. I had this earlier and replaced the ignition module and a couple of sensors. My mechanic kept the car two days but could never get it to fail. Often 15 miles or more of driving are needed before it starts this dying. Does anyone know what could cause this??

Mike

Try tapping the pcm with a screw driver handle ,see if the engine stumbles, also make sure all the connectors on the pcm are tight and the connectors are not corroded, post back results.

Mine did about the same thing. Turned out to me the Camshaft Sensor. About a 25 dollar repair. I wonder why these symptoms are so common in these cars?
