engine light

Hello to all, My '02 had its' check engine light come on for about 5 min. it was on, wife shut truck off and started it, and it never came back on. it ran fine she said. my Quest. is, will that still be in the comp. memory that it did come on? and would it be worth having a scanner at the dealer hook up to it? or would advance autos scanner work? I bought ext. warranty for it w/ a 100.00 deductible so i'm paying for the scan but not work if its needed. It always did have like a "hollow tinny sound" on acceleration. is that normal for these. it does sound kinda like a diesel when its cold but seems ok after it warms up. it has 52000 mi. so it shouldn't be tired yet.

Should be in history, the code, for enough time till the pcm sees it gone and clears itself. Nose is most likely the venerable piston slap, Ive had it since day one.

Re: engine light

If the SES light went out, don't pay to have it scanned. You can try to have pending codes scanned for free at autozone, but I'm not sure their equipment has the capability. I've got a cheapy harbor freight tools OBDII code reader that I bought for ~$30 a few years ago. It's paid for itself 20x over. (they usually go for ~$40 now) It will only read codes that are locked in (SES on), but it will clear them out for you. Bottom line is, if the light is out, you are ok.
