Clicking/grinding front end 1st-2nd gear
My 2006 Ody EX has a light grind when starting out, when in low gear. I thought I heard it has something to do with ABS check but I can't find anything about it in my owners manual. Is this noise normal?

Re: Clicking/grinding front end 1st-2nd gear
Just bought a 2006 EXL Odyssey and have the exact same problem! A slight grinding/clicking that I can fee on the accelerator pedal when the car first goes from 1st to 2nd gear (about 11mph). It usually only does it when I first start the car (i.e., if I later come to a stop while driving and then accelerate, the problem doesn't seem to reoccur). I'm really bummed--this car is 3 days old! Glad to know my problem certainly isn't unique (found a whole bunch of posts with the exact same problem when I googled), but have you found any solutions?

Re: Clicking/grinding front end 1st-2nd gear
Just got off the phone with my Honda salesman about this problem (a mechanic by training, so he actually knows what he's talking about). Before even finished asking my question, he guessed it. He says the sound/grinding we're experiencing is the ABS brake system engaging. It will happen each time you start your car (but should only happen once right at the start which is why we generally feel it when we're in the 10-15mph ballpark changing from 1st to 2nd gear). Wish Honda had created a less alarming signal of ABS activation, but it's very comforting to know that this is totally normal and not indicative of any problems with the car!
Fyi, another time you may hear a similar sound (but not feel the grinding) is when you turn on your AC and your compressor is activated. |
