Exclamation Ignition electrical issue

I've had an engine starting problem and have eliminated the battery, ignition switch, egnition key column, and starter (and sylenoid). And i've replaced them all. I currently am starting my car by a wire that's attatched to the S-wire in my starter and touching it to the battery. ghetto-I know. But I've been having this problem for 3+months. I know that there's 12 volts going to the starter and that the starter works properly. I've checked the ground wires-which look fine. I even added another one just in case....WHICH LEADS TO MY PROBLEM. I fear that I may have a lose ignition wire. I've combed over the electrical schematics in my chiltons manuel and don't really know where to start. AM I HEADED IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION and does anyone have any tip on the best way to fix and find a lose wire? I'm in foreign teritory here Anything is apreciated!!!

Re: Ignition electrical issue

How exactly did you rule out all of those things you stated? Did you replace the ignition switch? They are prone to failure and most people end up changing out the lock when the problem is the switch or connection itself. I
don't think there is a fusable link or anything. Just verify you have 12v at the switch and then follow it back to the starter. It's a simple system to figure out things.

What's the problem? What is it doing? Does it intermittently start, crank but not turn over?

Somethimes it starts perfect-other times it won't even turn over. (just get the buzzing power on sound) I changed the ignition switch first because I know they tend to be the first problem. No check engine light..so I then took it to a battery place. Alternator was great but they said that with all my acess. that it might be too much on it. So I upgrated to a dry cell. Still had problems when it sits too long. So I replaced the starter AND sylinoid. While it was at the started place the key get stuck in the ignition. Locksmith couldn't get it out-so I had to replace the barell (it ended up being cracked) We have a meter at home and are able to tell that 12V are going to the starter. I just can't find a schematic to know what I'm really looking for. Right now the battery people are blaming the starter people and visa versa. I'm tired of replacing things that aren't broken-lol. Any suggestions? Is it possible that a fuse could cause the problem?

Re: Ignition electrical issue

go to a auto electric shop and have them check your neutral switch. it may be the problem. when the neutral switch goes bad, it has a hard time starting sometimes.

Re: Ignition electrical issue

I'm not quite sure about this one. Instead of narrowing it down, it's blown up into alot of possible problems. Which has given me alot of misery until i found out what mine was. It could be many, a wire in the cable harness, alternator, you could check your terminals for corrostion. That's all i can think of at the moment. But it may be a good idea to go to autozone and get a free dianostic, those help sometimes.
