Help with 96 Civic EX
I got a 96 Civic EX about a month ago. I love the mpg it gets but the hp is crap. Anyone know of some cheep mods to bring the hp up a bit and will not bring down the 30 to 35 mpg. This is just a daily driver car, ide just like a little more power out of the car for passing and acceleration. Thanks

Re: Help with 96 Civic EX
Go on eBay. Buy a short ram intake for cheap. Put a K&N air filter on it. That will add like 2-5 hp.
Not many cheap hp mods you can do. You can always take out the back seat if you want. Make the car a little lighter, able to go a little faster with less weight, and better MPG due to less weight. B&M short shifter. Only like $50-70 depending on where you get it. Pretty straight forward and easy install. Doesn't really help any with hp, but it makes the shift throws a lot shorter. Lot more fun to drive around with (IMO). Plus you get the cool looking shift boot "sag". |

It's a SOHC...you're not going to get much out of it.

like said above, cold air intake is really the only CHEAP mod for HP, other than that you start paying... |

Re: Help with 96 Civic EX
Adding power without decreasing mpg is REALLY hard to do. Even an air intake will decrease fuel economy a little bit. Just enjoy the"30-35 mpg" like you said earlier. I've driven plenty of cars, and civic's really aren't *that* slow, they just make most of their power at the top end (high RPM), and dont have a lot of torque. However, this setup is why you get 30-35 mpg.
