Cool HELP Transmission

I have a 96 Intrepid with a 3.3. I took it into a garage to have the transmission fluid and i told the guy to put atf 4 in. I find out that he put dexron mercon 4 xr4 in. Now i have to have it flushed by him and he seems to think that the stuff he put in isn't that bad. He may try to charge me for the work too, any suggestions what i should do about that? I also have driven it about 80km with the new tranny fluid, can there be any real harsh affects after driving that far? It has 170,000 on it. Since having the fluid changed i had it lunge forward when i let my foot off the brake and went to press the gas when i was sitting at a red light, also the rpms are running higher too. Please help!!

Re: HELP Transmission

Dextron will destroy the trans in a short amount of time.
The mechanic that put it in is too stupid to work on cars.
Would you put cooking oil in your engine because you didn't have motor oil handy and cooking oil was cheaper anyway; I don't think so, neither should a mechanic think he could put Dextron into a device that requires ATF+4. Just because other devices use Dextron, it doesn't mean it works for everything.
Take him to small claims court for the replacement of your Transmission.

Re: HELP Transmission

Thanks man, i have a bunch of print outs that say the stuff is wrong but he seems to think that hes still right. What gets me is i went to my chrysler dealership and they said yes atf 4 is suppose to go in but the mechanic there said it shouldn't hurt anything but i figure they just wanna work on my car and scam me out of money. All i can think of is to take all my evidence to him and see what he says. When he dropped the pan he believed it was a rebuilt tranny cause it doesn't have the authenticity stickers that are apparently on the original but who knows. Im super pissed though

Cool Re: HELP Transmission

You need to get your RPM's back to normal. A brand new transmission with the exact (HIGH DOLLAR) fluid shouldn't be OK with the engine reving, burning down your brakes and heating up your trans. THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR ??

Re: HELP Transmission

That many miles with the wrong fluid, your tranny is probably shot, or very close to it.
