Engine flooding on startup?

My 1997 Mazda 626 used to start very easily (within 1-2 seconds). Recently it has been turning over quite a while (5-7 seconds) before it starts, and then I can smell gas like the engine is flooded.

Any idea what this could be?

Thanks to anyone who can help!

Re: Engine flooding on startup?

Check hoses on your fuel rail for a leak. Also check hoses that go to and from your fuel filter for leaks. bj
