Angry Electrical problem with grand voyger

I am trying to determine the cause of the following intermitent problem. This problem sometimes is present upon starting the car or when the car is already operational.
Symptoms: All instrument gauges stop working (temp, fuel, speedometer, tach) and the odometer / gear selection indicators go out. The ABS light goes on at this time.

This problem occurs much less often in the winter (colder) months and more frequent in the warmer weather.

If the problem exists when I start the car, and start working while I am driving - everything returns to nomal and the auto door locks actuate and the ABS light goes out.

If I am driving and the problem occurs the tach and speedometer stop working and the abs light comes on and stays on and all other quages stop working. The transmission also does not downshift or go into OD when needed when this happens.

What electrical component would cause these all these symptoms?
As stated above, it rarely happened during the winter months.

Optional Information:
1997 Dodge Grandvoyager SE 3.3 Auto w/OD

Thanks, John

Re: Electrical problem with grand voyger

First thing I would try is to thoroughly clean the battery terminals and use a terminal brush on the battery terminals and the inside of the battery cable even if they look clean. These are susceptible to poor battery connections and grounds. I have also read about problems with poor solder joints in the instrument cluster causing problems like this . Go read this on another forum , sound familiar??? http://www.dodgetalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=103614
