I have a 1995 taurus body and transmission(not sure if trans works). It had a 3.8l engine in it. Due to the cost and limited availability and unreliability of the 3.8, I was wondering if a 3.0l could be put in instead. If so what alterations would be needed. Should I try to find engine and tranny togethor? could I use an SHO?.....

Re: 3.8 , 3.0 swap
for the 3.0 you'd need the motor mounts, computer, and wiring harness for the 3.0 and everything should work.
For the SHO it would be significantly more involved.

Re: 3.8 , 3.0 swap
The easiest you could do if you want to swap, is put in the 3.0 vulcan. Just make sure to grab the computer for it.
The automatic SHO was 3.2l and the manual SHO was 3.0l. The 3.0l SHO swap would be a little more triky than the vulcan swap. |

Re: 3.8 , 3.0 swap
I think that you are asking for a lot of headaches. It would be much cheaper and easier to put a good 3.8 back in it.

Re: 3.8 , 3.0 swap
The 3.8 bay is the most difficult to engine to swap with. I would not consider it.
