95 Lesabre Coolant Leak at Throttle Body

Hey,
I've got a reasonably serious coolant leak coming from somewhere around the throttle body.

Any suggestions on how to start addressing this?

What is in there that could be busted/cracked?

Any recommendations on handbooks? Chilton's better than haynes, for example?

Thanks.

Hello

I feel that Chilton's is better than haynes. A factory manual beats them all.

Sorry I don't know what to tell you about the leak without looking at it.

Dan

Re: 95 Lesabre Coolant Leak at Throttle Body

Thanks Dan.

With a little further research (which I should have done earlier) this appears likely to be the plastic intake problem due to a hot EGR pipe.

Unfortunately the fixes I've found seem geared toward VIN K engines.
I don't have any K in my VIN.

It appears to be the "L" engine.

Is the series I the "L" and series II the "K" or is that too easy?

Re: 95 Lesabre Coolant Leak at Throttle Body

Last weekend I fixed that leak (at least it sounds like it) on my 1994 (it's a vin L too). Searched all over and found the same egr info you did, but since that was all for series II engines, I knew that it wasn't the same. (I think the egr leak goes inside the engine.)

There's a gasket between the throttle body and the intake manifold. There's a small coolant passage there that "improves cold driveability." Mine was leaking at that gasket. Took less than 2 hours to fix (with no real advance info) and parts were $5 in stock at a local AutoZone.

If you need more info on this get in touch with me. I took pictures while I was doing it and can give you step-by-step directions.

Re: 95 Lesabre Coolant Leak at Throttle Body

Taser,
This is great information.
I'll definitely look into changing this gasket before I dump a bunch of money into buying a new intake manifold.

I'll love to see pictures...can you post them here?

Do you have the part number handy?

Thanks very much.

Edit update...found the Throttle Body Base Gasket at Autozone.
I got it in there early this morning. No leak so far.

But my damn TPS error codes appear to be back and the car is stalling again.
