Trans am 4L60E = Jimmy 4L60E ?
I was woundering if anyone could tell me if my sisters 97 GMC 4x4 jimmy's 4L60E transmission is the same as the one in my 95 Trans Am? I believe it may be the same except for the tailshaft, but im not 100% sure of that. does anyone know? Thanx

They are pretty much the same internally. Unless you have the performance button in which case you have a few upgrades but basically internally all the same stuff.

Thanx alot for the reply, im in desprate need to get my car back on the road. My car does have the transmission perform button, what would be the difference between the two transmission without the button?. And also do you know if the bellhousing is the same on both trannys or are they different?

That tranny will definetly not work in your car. Like I said internally they are pretty much the same but the external differences are what will make it not work. Internally the servo's is the corvette type since you have the perform button. Plus you have a few different upgrades used in the corvette 4l60-e as well.

when was the performance button eliminated from the trans am. I don't have one in my 96 so i am guessing it was stopped in 95. Is this right.

Only 94 & 95 Auto Formula and Trans Am with the 3.23 option got it.

is it anything like the 700R4's on the camaro/firebird of 3g's and other cars that got 700R4? if it is, then the gearing is all diff not to mention the amount of clutch plates... shift points.. so ive read. while trying to figure out wtf went wrong on my stupid pos 700R4
