Thumbs down Craptastic fog lights

The fog lights in my car suck. I've had the car since it had 24K miles on it...now I've just passed 60K...so for a good 35K miles and about 2.5 years. Anyway, I've replaced the fog light on the passenger side twice and once just recently on the driver side. As I was driving home tonight I noticed the passenger side fog light was burnt out AGAIN! What is going on? The last time I replaced the one on that side was less than a year ago. It's not that hard to do and not that expensive (about $9), but it's starting to become irritating. These are the only light bulbs I've had to replace on my car so far, but geeze, 4 times?! C'mon!

Anyone else out there with a GL or GLS having similar issues with the fog lights?

Re: Craptastic fog lights

What brand of bulb did you replace them with?

-Also, if you use your foglights all the time, it is natural that they will burn out faster. Dont use them unless you need to.

Re: Craptastic fog lights

Are they getting hit? Wife has one and they are low enough to get hit w/ all kinds of debris. I stopped replacing them a year ago. Usually had a small crack from a rock hitting them.

Re: Craptastic fog lights

We replaced both of ours. However, it wasn't due to the lamps burning out. The glass part of the lens pits too easily and the reflective material looked like it was peeling off or deteriating. On the passenger side, it had a crack on the glass lens probably due to road debris.

BTW - The fog lamps are made by Blazer for GM.

Re: Craptastic fog lights

I have them on when I have my headlights on...so I guess all times I drive at night they are on. But the thing is that I drove my car for nearly 20K miles before needing to replace them. Now, they're buring out every 9-12K miles. Maybe I'll just use them less...

Thanks for the responses.

What brand replacement lamps are you using and what number? There are two types of recommended lamps. The 894 and 881L. I recall the OEM lamp was made by GE. The 881L is the longer life. Regardless, your usage pattern looks high since you are using them to supplement the headlights.

Honestly, it's little things like this that make me hate owning a car. Little, stupid, miniscule, PITA things like this...
