Third Generation Toyota Celica?

Hey, I'm asking this question for a friend who wants to get into model building. He's looking to do a replica of his car, an 83 Celica. It's not a Supra, and I was wondering if there were any kits he could pick up, or if there is anything made for that particular car. It's a 1983, in case that helps. Thank you!

I've just been informed that the Celica XX is a Supra. He just has a munane Celica.

Re: Third Generation Toyota Celica?

For the life of me I don't think there were any non-Supra/4 cylinder Celica kits of that era; I don't remember seeing any and I was living in LA and buying many Japanese kits (plentiful in LA) from that era when they were new. I had almost forgotten that the Supra was originally an offshoot of the Celica. All the kits I've ever seen were the XX variety.

Wish Tamiya would reissue the Long Beach Supra.

Re: Third Generation Toyota Celica?

What are the differences between a Celica XX (Supra) and a regular Celica? I think there was a time that the Celica/Supra was just a Celica with bigger motor crammed in, but looked mostly the same. Is his car from that period? I know it's his first, but how hard would it be to modify an XX into a "mundane" Celica?

Re: Third Generation Toyota Celica?

Hi there, I'm the one who's looking for the model....
Basically, I'm looking for an 82-85 Toyota Celica, not Supra or XX...
There were actually 2 very different front faces on the Celica.
82 and 83:

And then there were the 84 and 85:

And of course the Supra:

Which is 6" longer than the Celica..
I once saw an 83 model on ebay, but it shot up to about 75 bucks (which I didn't have at the time..)
Of course, I didn't make any notes of the brand or anything...
I personally have an 83 celica, so an 82 or 83 model would be the best, but an 84/85 model would be fine as well...

Someone custom made the face a while ago. I don't have pictures though sorry, but with enough skills, i'm sure anyone can pull it off!

I dunno, but I saw a number of similarly confused cars in Southern CA back in the early 80's (which this model depicts). It was epidemic. Especially when it went as far as seeing a Nissan PU wearing the kidneys

Sorry to bring up an old post, but this must be it, it doesn't say XX or supra.

Re: Third Generation Toyota Celica?

I think this is the car...same body as the MKII Supra but with different front.
